“Ru Paul says we’re all in drag, all the time,” says director Emma Westenberg. “And I believe it.” She’s talking about her interest in character, and the way she uses it to question the “role-playing” that’s a part of everyday life – with many of her films exploring the hows and whys of the ways people behave. “I think a lot of my films are about the structures in our society,” she says, “Playing with those, and making surprising and unexpected changes.”
