After watching Ghanaian-Dutch filmmaker and visual artist Emmanuel Adjei’s mind-bending short film Shahmaran in 2018, I selected him for the first Pitch Cool issue published the same year.

It took him three years to create the piece, taking his time to slowly craft it with collaborators, bit by bit and I was impressed by that.

Signed to HALAL, Emmanuel has since created work for recording artists such as Madonna (2019), Mykki Blanco (2019) and FKA twigs (2021). Last year also saw the announcement of his contribution as film director on Beyoncé’s BLACK IS KING.

Multi-award-winning Emmanuel holds a degree in Fine Art from the Utrecht School of the Arts in the Netherlands, and he studied Film at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Belgium.

Emmanuel Adjei is truly a talent.

Check out his work.
