Pitch Amazing Jamaican, Dr. Trisha Bailey.
There are some stories that remind us not just of what success looks like, but what it truly means.
Dr. Trisha Bailey’s journey is one of those stories.
Born in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, and raised in a working-class environment, Dr. Bailey’s early life was shaped by hardship, resilience, and an unshakable belief in something greater. At just 13 years old, she migrated to the United States, carrying with her the quiet determination that so many Jamaicans know well, the understanding that where you begin does not define where you can go.
What followed is not just a story of ambition, but of discipline, endurance, and vision.
Dr. Bailey went on to become the first in her family to attend and graduate from university. She earned an MBA and later a Doctorate in Organisational Leadership, laying the foundation for her rise into global business leadership.
Today, she stands as the wealthiest Jamaican-born woman, a title that reflects not only financial success but years of relentless work, strategic thinking, and bold decision-making.
As the founder of Bailey’s Medical Equipment & Supplies, Dr. Bailey built a healthcare enterprise that has grown into a multi-million-dollar operation, supplying critical medical equipment across the United States. Beyond this, she has developed a diverse portfolio of over 16 companies spanning healthcare, real estate, and investment, creating jobs, driving economic growth, and expanding her impact across multiple industries.
But what makes Dr. Bailey truly remarkable, and why she is an Amazing Jamaican, is not just what she has built.
It is what she gives.
Through the Bailey Family Foundation, Dr. Bailey has supported hundreds of students across the Caribbean and the diaspora with scholarships, helping to create pathways where none previously existed. Her commitment to education is both personal and transformative.
In 2021, she made history with one of the largest donations ever made to the University of Connecticut, contributing millions to support student-athletes and academic programmes. In recognition of her impact, the university named its nursing school building in her honour, cementing her legacy within one of the United States’ leading institutions.
Her contributions have also been recognised at the national level in Jamaica. In 2025, Dr. Bailey was awarded the Order of Distinction in the Rank of Commander(CD) for her contributions to public health, medical education, and community advancement. Accepting the honour, Dr. Bailey did so with humility, recognising it as a reflection of both her journey and responsibility to give back.
Dr. Bailey also remains deeply connected to Jamaica, continuing to invest in the country’s future through education, mentorship, and community development. Her work reflects a belief that success is not complete unless it is shared.
In her memoir, Unbroken, Dr. Bailey opens up about her journey with striking honesty, from surviving abuse and navigating loss to rebuilding her life with courage, faith, and purpose. It is this transparency that makes her story resonate so deeply, particularly with young women who see in her not just achievement, but possibility.
In a world that often celebrates outcomes without acknowledging the journey, Dr. Bailey’s story reminds us of what really matters: resilience, vision, and giving back.
Dr. Bailey stands as a global force, a builder of opportunity, and a powerful example of Jamaican excellence on the world stage.
