Portland Cool.

I fell in love with Portland after one visit, when I was about 24 years old. I stayed with family in a small cottage on a hillside overlooking the sea and knew almost immediately that there was something special about the place.

Listening to the sound of rain dancing on the zinc roof, we would drift soundly to sleep after spending our days visiting our cousins and friends across the island.

For our visit, we will begin before sunrise with a gentle wellness session led by a local practitioner, taking time to stretch, centre ourselves, and prepare for the day ahead.

After enjoying a traditional Jamaican breakfast, we will head out for a creative morning at a local school. We will spend time with the children, listening to their stories, poems, dreams, and hopes for the future.

We will share insights into the creative industries and the opportunities they offer, encouraging the next generation to dream beyond what they can immediately see.

We will play games, laugh in the schoolyard, share school supplies and gifts, and spend time together planning for our futures.

Afterwards, we will meet with our Portland guides who will take us to one of their favourite jerk spots for lunch.

Portland is often described as Jamaica’s green paradise, home to 17 rivers and countless waterfalls hidden among its mountains, valleys, and rainforests. Water seems to flow from every corner of the parish, winding through lush landscapes before meeting the sea.

We will spend time at one of Portland’s many rivers or waterfalls, cooling off in the fresh water and enjoying a slow afternoon surrounded by nature before returning to our nest for a well-earned rest.

As evening approaches, we will follow our guides to another local spot by the sea, where we will watch the sunset while enjoying the catch of the day, prepared by local fisherfolk.

As the sky turns from gold to deep blue, we will play dominoes, eat, drink, and share our stories, dreams, and plans for the future.

I cannot wait for you to experience Portland. It is a magical place where the mountains meet the sea, life moves a little slower, and every corner seems to hold a story waiting to be told.
