Meet Shannie Mears, Pitch Pioneer of Jamaica.
British Jamaican Shannie Mears is Co-founder and Head of Talent at The Elephant Room, which Shannie launched with former CEO, Dan Saxby, of Global Creative Agency Iris Worldwide, in 2017.
The Elephant Room is an independent integrated creative agency. Shannie aims to address the lack of representation in the creative industries while collaborating with global brands including PUMA, Chivas Regal, Barclays, and Pinterest.
A leader, trailblazer, and culture maker, Shannie has a network of over 2,000 new diverse creative talent and was named Management Today's 35 Women Under 35 in Business 2019, and most recently Forbes 30 Under 30 2023.
Shannie’s work with young people has spanned over 10 years, teaching dance, and running workshops in her hometown, Birmingham. Shannie has also lectured at Kingston University within the creative and cultural industries department, and previously sat on the Race and Ethnic Disparities Board at No.10 Downing Street, advising on race and policy.
Being passionate about Black education and early intervention, Shannie has sat on funding panels and boards, and facilitated creative workshops in the advertising creative industry and in schools across the United Kingdom.
Shannie recently became a mum and took time out from maternity leave to deliver a keynote speech on Innovation Beyond Borders: The Role of Diversity and Future Proofing Business.
Shannie says, “I wanted to challenge the audience to think about not just the role of diversity, but the role of difference in the aspects of creativity, community, and curiosity beyond just our identities.”
