For Stephen Josephs, the spirit of service began during his childhood.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Stephen grew up in a family where helping others was simply part of everyday life. His parents, Deloris and Edward Josephs, believed deeply in the principle of service above self, often taking their children with them on visits to support people in need, feed the homeless, check in on the sick, and offer help wherever it was needed. Through their example, Stephen and his siblings learned early that compassion is most powerful when it is paired with action.

That early foundation of service would later shape Stephen’s life and work in extraordinary ways.

Today, Stephen is widely recognised for his humanitarian work supporting burn victims and families facing crisis across Jamaica. Together with his brother, Luke Josephs, he co-founded the Burn Foundation of Jamaica and the Crisis Support Charity, organisations dedicated to helping people in their most difficult moments.

Through these initiatives, Stephen and his team work to support burn survivors and help families access critical medical treatment. In some cases, this means coordinating international care when the specialised treatment needed is not available on the island.

But Stephen’s mission extends beyond burn care.

For him, a crisis does not always look dramatic or urgent. Sometimes it is a mother struggling to provide her children with proper nutrition. Sometimes it is a patient in need of life-saving treatment that simply cannot be found locally. Often, families quietly navigate challenges without the support they need.

Through the work of the foundations, Stephen helps bring together communities, donors, medical professionals, and volunteers to bridge those gaps and provide support where it is needed most.

Service runs deeply throughout the Josephs family. Stephen’s sister, Stephanie Josephs, founded the Inspire to Empower a Change Foundation, dedicated to supporting and advocating for members of the special needs community, continuing the family tradition of standing alongside those who need support.

In recognition of his humanitarian work and commitment to community development, Stephen was awarded the Order of Distinction (OD) by the Government of Jamaica.

Yet for Stephen, recognition has never been the purpose of the work.

The goal has always been simple: to help others.

As Stephen often reflects, if even one tear can be wiped from someone’s eyes, then the effort is worthwhile.

At The Pitch Fanzine, the Pitch Amazing Jamaicans campaign celebrates individuals who are building meaningful change across Jamaica’s industries and communities.

Stephen represents the power of compassion in action, a reminder that leadership is not only about success but also about service.

And through his work, lives across Jamaica continue to be lifted, supported, and given hope.

Stephen Josephs is an amazing Jamaican.
