Pitch Amazing Jamaican, Ingrid Riley.

And save the planet.

Ingrid Riley’s journey into technology began in Kingston.

Born and raised in the city, Ingrid’s early exposure to the internet came through family. Her older sister and brother-in-law were partners in one of Jamaica’s first internet service providers, Jamaica Online, and Ingrid often spent time in their office observing the early days of modems, dial-up connections, and the emerging online world.

At home, Ingrid experimented with her own computer and dial-up internet, developing an early curiosity about how digital spaces worked.

Around the same time, after leaving the University of Technology, Ingrid joined the Jamaica Observer as part of its early media team. Hired on the strength of a bold cover letter and her writing ability, the experience placed her at the intersection of media, technology, and storytelling.

Those early experiences, curiosity, access to emerging technology, and connection to people experimenting with new digital tools would shape the path that followed.

For nearly two decades, Ingrid has been leading the Caribbean’s technology ecosystem.

A Jamaican entrepreneur and community builder, Ingrid is the founder of SiliconCaribe, a platform that connects entrepreneurs, investors, creatives, and technologists to build globally competitive digital businesses from the Caribbean.

In 2007, Ingrid launched Kingston BETA, the Caribbean’s first and longest-running technology event series.

What began as a small meetup quickly evolved into a powerful community platform where founders pitch ideas, investors discover emerging talent, and collaborations form to help shape the region’s growing digital economy.

Since then, Ingrid has produced more than 300 events across 12 countries, connecting over 100,000 entrepreneurs, creatives, investors, and industry leaders throughout the Caribbean and its global diaspora.

Through SiliconCaribe, Ingrid has also played a key role in documenting the region’s rapidly growing technology sector, publishing more than 3,000 stories about Caribbean startups, digital brands, innovation, and the cultural forces driving the digital economy.

At the heart of her work is a clear mission: creating spaces where the right people, ideas, and capital can meet, while demonstrating that entrepreneurship, innovation, and digital culture thrive in the Caribbean, far beyond the beach.

Earlier this year, Ingrid launched the inaugural Caribbean Tech Week, a coordinated series of 14 technology events across the Caribbean and the diaspora.

The initiative reflects the growing momentum of the region’s innovation ecosystem and the increasing alignment between founders, investors, and industry leaders.

Her next project continues that trajectory. In April, Ingrid will produce and co-host Beyond the Beach: Caribbean Impact Investment Summit with Entrepreneurs Across Borders.

Now in its fourth year, the gathering is designed to position the Caribbean as an emerging frontier for global investment in fintech, climate innovation, and digital exports.

Despite the international reach of her work, Ingrid remains deeply committed to nurturing grassroots communities. Through the ongoing Kingston BETA series, entrepreneurs, creatives, investors, and technologists regularly gather to exchange ideas, form partnerships, discover talent, and build companies.

Ingrid’s philosophy is simple: technology gives small places a global advantage.

As Ingrid explains:

“With the right strategy, leveraging our unique cultural nuances, diaspora and global networks, knowledge, and access to capital, Caribbean entrepreneurs can build companies that export ideas, culture, and innovation to the world.”
